New York, #newyork

Posted on April 03 2017

You might have noticed that we have recently been to one of our favourite cities (outside of London)...New York.  We are lucky enough to have been many times and more recently to have friends who live there who we can stay with but are always so excited to be back.

On this occasion we were visiting for a friend's birthday…having told everyone we were off for a long weekend (in fact a week) it meant we had 4 days in NYC and 3 days upstate in the Catskills. This was a really nice change, giving our bank balance a break from shopping, our feet a rest from pounding the streets and getting some fresh air...

We stayed in the beautiful Foxfire Mountain House, sang karaoke, drank too much and generally had a lovely time.  We also ate twice at the Phoenicia Diner, so can highly recommend.

Back in NYC, there are so many amazing eateries but as creatures of habit, it means there are a couple of restaurants we always visit when we are in town. They include Balthazar, Mercer Kitchen and The Standard Grill (mainly because we have often stayed at The Standard's two hotels in town and love their French Toast!).  This year we also visited the Burger Joint at the Meridian - delicious and will definitely go back another time for the grilled cheese, fries and a shake...

Obviously, as one of the greatest shopping cities in the world we had to squeeze in a shop (or ten). On our list is always Barneys, its the Harvey Nichols, (Liberty or Selfridges) of New York, with its own wonderful twist, also Bergdorf Goodman is a must. We also made it to The Line, Opening Ceremony, Steven AlanMaryam Nassir Zadeh (as well as the likes of Gucci, Prada and the many Marc Jacobs) and for homewares Coming Soon.

Its obviously lovely having time to pop in and out of boutiques but for us strolling around Chelsea, the East Village and Soho, popping into new boutiques on Elizabeth Street and old favourites on Mercer, grabbing a coffee at Dean & Deluca is what visiting New York is all about.
