Why we choose Italian...

Posted on November 13 2015

We love autumn days here in the UK, with it’s gorgeous colours, cosy evenings and the welcome return of the Sunday roast to the weekends! And this week was typically seasonal for us, with sparklers and fireworks on bonfire night, our first roaring fire of the year at home on Friday, a Saturday spent clearing up heaps of leaves in the garden (always therapeutic believe it or not!) and a lazy Sunday having lunch with friends.

In between all these activities it was full steam ahead in the Monorails office, sampling the last few pieces for our SS16 collection and researching photo shoot locations. Much discussion abounded, as we lobbied for our favourite short haul destinations (whilst hankering over long haul, you might have seen some of our previous holiday snaps on Instagram).  But one of the countries that we are all keen on using as a location, in the future, was a country which we feel, after the UK has the closest association with us - Italy.

When we first started looking for the fabrics to make our dresses, we researched many different types, weights and countries of origin, to ensure we sourced the ultimate in a quality, luxury material and we kept coming back to Italian jersey. Yes we could and indeed did find less expensive fabric but we know from years of being fashion lovers, that the least expensive option, is rarely the best!  We just love the way our gorgeous Italian jersey hangs, the vibrant colours in the prints and the long life that we believe the dresses will enjoy due to this superior fabric. We really think that our jersey offers the ultimate in luxurious, breathable, soft and comfortable wearability - perfect for our trans-seasonal holiday staples.

Following a few trips to Italy (research obviously) we found our supplier and we couldn’t be happier. So we’re sure that at some point we’ll head back over to this beautiful country as a backdrop to a collection. We’re thinking Lake Como might be good….perhaps George Clooney would loan us his villa!
